- What is a spore syringe?
- A spore print is a pattern created by the spores that fall from a mushroom's gills, used to identify and study different fungal species.
- What is a spore print?
- Spores are collected on a piece of sturdy, clean foil for microscopy.
- What is a spore swab?
- A spore swab is a sterile, medical grade cotton swab that is used to collect spores from underneath the gills of a mushroom for microscopy.
- What should my spore syringe look like?
- Your spore syringe won’t have a set color because spores come in many colors. Spores can be bronze, black, purple or even translucent. Spore solution (sterile water and spores) may come in a dark color or look fairly light, depending on the species. Either way, we ensure each of our syringes are full of thousands of spores for your microscopy needs.
- Why are there clumps of spores in my syringe?
- Clumps of spores are completely normal. Mushroom Spores have an excess of electrons, giving it a mild electrical charge. This small charge can cause the spores to be attracted to each other, leading them to clump together naturally. Before viewing your spores under a microscope, shake the syringe to disperse the spores and prevent clogging the needle.
- How long will my spores last?
- Your spores can last a few months in a cool environment, ideally in a clean plastic bag, in a small clean section in your refrigerator.
